GET INSPIRED

Connecting you to Landscape, Nature and The Wild.

Misty in Mind, Misty in Nature.

Hello there friends,

This is the third October running I've sent out a letter to you since I started posting regularly every month.

I used to worry that I'd have nothing much to write about if it was a quiet month. But what is quiet? It all depends on how you choose to view things.

And what I call misty in mind is having some tranquil space to allow thoughts to drift through your mind in the same way that morning mist weaves through the trees in my valley. October is a good time for both.

This is a new painting that's on show in the upstairs Art Room Gallery at Spirals in Hebden Bridge. It is hard to photograph well. The mist, sky and wall behind are all basically the same white but my phone camera makes the mist too prominent.

There's also a companion piece that's similar, hanging alongside called Mist In The Trees and I've included a few more new smaller paintings too.

The exhibition is called Threshholds and the opening in early October was a really lovely event, friendly and relaxed, not at all intimidating. The show will be on until after Christmas so there's plenty of time for visiting if you live anywhere nearby.

Bringing The Outside In
When is a dragonfly not a dragonfly?

Remember a few letters ago I showed you the skeletonised keys of a sycamore tree I found on a walk. And I said their form made me think of a dragonfly?

Well on another recent walk my partner spotted this on the edge of the path:

We brought it home to study more closely and for me to photograph. I used my iPhone and am pleased with the reasonable quality of the close-ups.

The most incredible aspect is that the dragonfly body and head are transparent and completely empty. Nature always confounds and amazes!

If you'd like to read more info and see extra photos including one of the sycamore keys and the dragonfly together, then follow this link to the post in my website Journal.

Nature Swatch

I was delighted to receive an email with this photograph from a shy subscriber who felt inspired to act on the creative exercise suggested in my September letter.

Isn't this great! The colour matching is excellent and such a worthwhile activity because like the hare below, you need to look really closely.

Another Book Recommendation

When my friend handed me this and said “you must read this” I secretly thought oh no, not another one of those books! but having read this through as a 'page-turner' I am converted.

It is a mixture of deep connection, joy and sadness. Once you discover how exquisitely sensitive hares are to even the tiniest change in their environment, because their lives depend on noticing, you are aghast at the thought of what happens in the modern countryside.

December Open Studio

Yes it’s coming around to that time again. I will be taking part in Hebden Bridge Open Studios the first weekend in December, specifically 4th 5th and 6th at Linden Mill, on the first floor 10.30am to 5pm and will be happy to welcome you there.

I'll have a lot of affordable art available to help out anyone looking for gifts, as well as some of my larger pieces on show.

Ripples

Thank you to Janet, Mell, Rod and Kate for your kind replies to my last email. I feel a responsibility for maintaining interest and expressing myself with clarity so of course it is lovely to read appreciative comments and to note the varied interpretations and responses to my words.

All the best
Angie
